All 4 Adventure: Little Black Mountain

This is a simple day trip picnic-style hike and outing. I really like to visit this area. I am a huge fan of Native American culture and petroglphys.

There are two ways to visit Little Black Mountain and you will need at least a little higher clearance vehicle – even though I have seen cars make the trip I don't always recommend this. You will want to head south on River Road in St. George, making the trip all the way out to the Fort Pierce Industrial Park, out by Blue Bunny and the National Guard building.

Continue on this road like you are heading to the Arizona Strip. Once you pass the brand new overpass for the brand new highway Southern Corridor to the airport, you are almost to the turn.  As soon as you pass the highway, start looking for a left-hand turn on a dirt road that says Little Black Mountain.

You will want to take this road and follow it for a few miles. It is a dirt road with some rocky inclines but it is fairly well traveled. Once you see the picnic tables, bathroom and fenced-off area, make your way to the parking lot. It will be to the north of the road you are traveling in on.

This area has some great walking trails, picnic areas and great petroglyph viewing areas. It is close to home, yet feels like you are getting out. I recommend this outing to someone who does not have all day but wants to get away on a mini adventure. Take water, food and have fun.
