ST. GEORGE – The weeklong Homecoming celebration continued into Friday night for the Thunder of Desert Hills. The visiting North Sanpete Hawks arrived to find the tough defense and balanced attacking offense that the Thunder have been boasting all season. The Desert Hills defense has only given up six points all season and tonight they shut out the Hawks 28-0.
After a scoreless first period, Thunder quarterback Chase Webster hit running back Mike
Needham on a short pass into the flat and Needham did the rest to find the end zone for a 49 yard touchdown. The Desert Hills defense held tough and turned the ball back over to the offense which drove the ball down to the Hawks one yard line. Again Needham found pay dirt with a one yard smash over the line. The Thunder led 14-0 at the half.
Desert Hills tight end Corbin Fitzgerald would get into the action early in the second half as
he took a pass from Webster and tip toed down the sideline for a 39 yard score. The final tally would be scored by wide receiver Tanner Atkin on a 7 yard pass from Webster over the middle.
Webster was 9 for 17 in the passing department with three touchdowns while Needham rushed for 105 yards and had two scores. The Thunder will put their 3-0 record on the line next week as Pine View comes to visit. Pine View is 2-1 after their 40-0 win tonight against Salem Hills.
