Hirschi receives SG Rotary vocational service award

ST. GEORGE – Scott Hirschi, director of Washington County’s Site Select Plus, was recognized on Monday with the St George Rotary Club’s annual Vocational Service Award. This recognition is given for his leadership in Site Select Plus’ outstanding efforts to assist and support existing local primary industries in expanding and retaining jobs and careers for the citizens of Washington County.

Hirschi first came to the Washington County Economic Development Council in July, 1996 but last year the name of the organization he directs was changed to better reflect the public-private partnerships involved in economic development in Southwest Utah’s sunbelt. These partnerships also lead recruitment efforts for value-added companies and jobs from outside the region by providing information, facilitating negotiations and removing roadblocks to make relocation or expansion to Washington County easy and painless for businesses.

The purpose of SGR’s “Vocational Service Award” is to recognize an individual in the community who exemplifies outstanding commitment to businesses or professions, over a significant number of years, leaving a lasting positive influence on his vocational area and the community in general. Recipients must also embody Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” and the ethical guidelines and call to moral excellence of Rotary’s 4-way test.

Each year, the St. George Rotary Club promotes and selects a “Vocational Service Award” recipient. The award is presented during a regular luncheon meeting in the month of October to coincide with Rotary International’s Vocational Service month.

The Rotary Club of St. George is one of four Rotary clubs in Washington County and more than 34,000 clubs in the world. Chartered in 1931, the 70-plus members of the county’s oldest nonprofit service club provide “service above self” in the county, state and the world.
