ST. GEORGE — It’s that time of year again to nominate your favorite teacher in Southern Utah.

Members of Planet 105.1 kicked off their annual tradition of rewarding teachers during the school year by passing out flyers and donuts from Daylight Donuts to parents as they dropped their kids off Wednesday morning at Bloomington Hills Elementary. This will be the 14th year Planet 105.1, formerly known as 94.1, will honor teachers with rewards for their dedication to education and students.

“It’s just our way of giving back to the teachers here in Southern Utah,” said Colleen Rue from Planet 105.1. “We’ve had many great experiences where people’s lives were changed by a great teacher, and we like to recognize that.”

Starting on Oct. 3, Planet 105.1 hosts will announce a “best teacher” every Wednesday during their morning show at 8:45 a.m. The teacher who wins each week will receive a prize package from sponsors Daylight Donuts, Boulevard Home Furnishings, Minky Couture, Crumbl, Fiiz and Findlay KIA.

Planet 105.1 will stop announcing winners at the end of April. After that, all of the teachers who won during the school year will be treated to a party hosted by Planet 105.1, where they can win even more prizes. One teacher will also receive $500 for themselves and $500 for their school from Findlay KIA at the party.

All you have to do in order to nominate a teacher is by filling out a short form on the Planet 105.1 website, and anyone can make a nomination. To nominate someone for the “Best Teacher on the Planet,” click here.

People only have to make a nomination once, Rue said, because the nomination will stay in the system for the 2018-19 school year.

“We rely on people and kids and families to nominate their favorite teachers,” Rue said. “We’re looking for people who have made a difference.”
