Kenton Peary Barker

Jan. 12, 1934 — June 4, 2018

Kenton Peary Barker, 84, passed away on June 4, 2018. He was born on Jan. 12, 1934, to Peary Bliss and Jenness Wright Barker in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He married Fusako (Kimi) Yamane in Tokyo, Japan. They were married for 38 years until her passing. He married Georgia Campbell on April 3, 1992, in the Ogden Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married for 26 years. He has lived in many different places, including Utah, Japan for 3 years, Oregon, Texas and Virginia.

Kenton was a member of the LDS church and served in many callings, including as a Member Location Director in St. George, Director of Baptistry for 5 years in the St. George Temple, Bishopric Counselor and Boy Scout Leader for approximately 30 years.

He worked as a program manager for the Air Force, retiring after 36 years. His special love and relaxation came from owning, breeding and riding Appaloosa horses in the mountains of Northern Utah. He enjoyed trying to keep up with his wife, Georgia. He was devoted to his family all his life and always ready to support them at any time.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia; his children: Kent Yamane Barker, Kevin Peary (Veronica) Barker, Troy Wayne Barker, Shari (Ray) Garrett and Julia (Joseph) Stern; grandchildren: Brandon Barker, Brett (Rachel) Barker, Kimberly Sanchez, Trevor (Blaire) Barker, Tanisha Barker, Alexis Barker, Shaun (Jasmine) Searle, Brent John Searle and Austin Garrett; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Sanford (Deanna) Barker, Sherman (Nancy) Barker, Leland LaMonte (Laura) Barker, Cheri Wayment, Shanna (Kim) Vaughn and Mary Ann Garner.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Fusako (Kimi) Barker; his parents; and in laws: Dr. Keith Wayment, Rodney Garner and Linda Barker.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff on the third floor of IMC at McKay Dee Hospital.

Funeral services

  • Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, at the Malans Peak Ward, 1643 26th St., Ogden, with a viewing prior to the service from 9-10:45 a.m. at the church.
  • Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery with military honors accorded.
