ST. GEORGE — An early morning all-terrain vehicle crash off of Water Canyon Road in Hildale was triggered when the driver sped through a curve in the road, losing control and running into a tree. Both driver and rider were injured.
Shortly after 3 a.m. emergency personnel and officers were dispatched to the ATV crash near the Water Canyon Trailhead, Hildale/Colorado City Fire Chief Kevin Barlow said. On arrival, they found the two injured and near the damaged ATV.
“There was one male driver and a female rider, both in their mid-20s to early 30s,” Barlow said, describing their injuries as serious but not life-threatening.
Once stabilized, the two were transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for evaluation and treatment.
The man was driving the ATV at high speed and was unable to negotiate the turn, according to statements taken at the scene, Barlow said. When he lost control of the ATV, it crashed head-on into a juniper tree throwing both riders off the vehicle.
Hildale/Colorado City Fire and Hildale Police departments responded to the scene.
This report is based on statements from emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
