ST. GEORGE – Cedar and Pine View were the only Region 9 reams in action Tuesday night. Cedar had its rematch against Canyon View. Pine View traveled northwest to Washington County rival Enterprise. Below are game summaries of the action:

Cedar 52, Canyon View 43

Cedar swept the crosstown rivalry with a victory on the Lady Falcons home court. This game was not the runaway that Cedar experienced in the opening game of the season. After the Lady Reds opened a 15-8 first quarter advantage, Canyon View made up some ground in the middle two quarters. The deficit was only 36-31 entering the fourth.

cedar-logocanyon-view-logo“Canyon View played a triangle and two defense, denying the ball to our two leading scorers,” said Cedar head coach John Elison. “That opened up looks for some of our players who normally do not score many points. Courtnie Lamb was able to take advantage and scored well for us.”

Lamb led the Lady Reds with 14 points. Maisie Elison and Lindsey Robins scored 10 apiece. Carly Davis and Japrix Weaver each scored eight. Elison had a double-double with 12 rebounds. Robinson and Davis each had four steals.

Though the Lady Reds improved over their last performance offensively, Coach Elison saw areas that needed improving. “We still need some work on our defense and rebounding,” he said.

Cedar improves to 4-1. Canyon View drops to 0-6. Up next for Cedar is the 3A Preview this weekend. The Reds will play Delta on Friday at 4 p.m. Saturday they will face the Soaring Eagle of Juan Diego at 3 p.m.

Enterprise 42, Pine View 29

The Panthers’ modus operandi of good defense and rebounding was replicated on a higher plane by the home school Enterprise.

pine-view-logo“They played good defense. That, in combination with our poor shot selection and just missing good shots short-circuited our offense,” said Pine View head coach Chris Brinagh. “Enterprise is a physical team and played with good discipline.”

The Panther defense was there tonight against Enterprise, limiting the Lady Wolves to only 22 percent shooting. But the Panther offense was worse. Enterprise held Pine View to only 17 percent shooting, including 0 for 11 from beyond the arc. Enterprise also outrebounded the Lady Panthers 32-24.

Claire Newby and Saraven Allen led the team with seven points each. Newby also led the team with seven rebounds. For Enterprise, Lacey Drake scored 12 points.

Enterprise improves to 3-3. Pine View drops to 2-2. The Panthers will next play in the Steve Hodson Cancer Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. against North Sevier.
