ST. GEORGE — A gold Prius collided with an oncoming minivan head-on after crossing the center line Saturday morning on Bloomington Drive South.
“The minivan was driving westbound, and the gold car (Prius) was coming eastbound,” St. George Police Officer Ken Childs said. “(The Prius) drifts into his lane, (and hits the minivan) head-on.”
Childs said the driver of the Prius did not recall the accident. He said he was parked on the side of the road.
“There is another witness that saw him drifting into the other lane as well,” Childs said. “So we know he was operating the vehicle.”
The driver of the Prius was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George to be evaluated.
“(We want to) make sure everything is all right with him,” Childs said. “Don’t know if he bumped his head as part of the accident. (The) airbags were deployed in both vehicles, so, it was a pretty good little crunch.”
Traffic was affected for about 45 minutes on Bloomington Drive while the scene was evaluated, the drivers were assisted and clean-up occurred.
Childs said the driver of the Prius will be cited for failure to maintain his lane. The driver of the minivan was uninjured.
Units from the St. George Police and Fire departments and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
