Beckstrand, Lady Thunder expected to be tops in Region 9

ST. GEORGE – Basketball season has already begun. Three teams have one game under their belts and three region teams are also in action Tuesday night.

The Region 9 coaches were polled on the predicted order of finish in region play and also asked to select players that would make an impact in region play this year. Below are the results:

Preseason Poll
Each team received six points maximum inversely to their predicted order of finish. First place votes are in parenthesis.

2. Cedar 28
3. Hurricane 24 (1)
4. Snow Canyon 18
5. Dixie 12
6. Pine View 10

Preseason All-Region Team
Coaches were asked to name five players not on their roster.

Player of the Year
Ashley Beckstrand, Desert Hills
Beckstrand recently signed a letter of intent to play for Brigham Young University next year. She played as a freshman for the 2013-14 state championship team. She was the first player listed on every coach’s ballot.
