The 27-year-old driver of the yellow KYMCO scooter was southbound on River Road when he made a right turn onto westbound St. George Boulevard. As he made the turn, an unknown driver of a black SUV pulled out in front of the scooter from the shopping complex near 200 N. River Road, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said.

The scooter’s brakes locked up after the man attempted to evade the SUV, causing him to lose control of the scooter and crash to the ground, Trombley said.

The driver of the scooter was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered slight abrasions to his hands, arms and torso.

The SUV is described as black with black rims, and the driver of the scooter was unable to obtain its license plate number or a description of the driver. There were no other known witnesses to the crash.

The scooter was damaged, including scraped paint, broken light covers and a broken mirror.

The area was dark with heavy Friday night traffic at the time of the incident.

Police are asking any witnesses to contact the police department at 435-627-4300 with reference incident 16p027811.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
