Ryan Allen Jones was arrested for a third-degree felony for allegedly hitting his father with a metal pipe during a family fight that erupted when his father gave the suspect’s estranged wife permission to gather up her belongings.

Cedar City Police responded to the scene at Mammoth Trailer Court, located on the block of 400 North and 800 West, at approximately 11:08 a.m.

“He was mad and he didn’t want his ex-wife there. And he didn’t want to give her her stuff,” said Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack. “When the father let her, that’s when the suspect got mad and hit his dad with the metal pipe.”

According to Womack, Jones’ father had escaped his home and called police for help.

When officers arrived, Jones was barricaded in the trailer and refused to come out.

After two hours of trying to talk the suspect into surrendering himself, authorities executed an arrest warrant and implemented the help of the Iron County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Bolos, and his handler, Deputy Shawn Peterson.

“At that time they forced entry and deployed Bolos and a Taser,” Womack said.

Jones was arrested but was allegedly combative with police and resisted arrest, Womack said. Jones’ father sustained minor injuries.

The incident ended at approximately 2 p.m. when officers took Jones to Cedar City Hospital for a medical clearance. Jones was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility and charged with aggravated assault.

The incident is still under investigation.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
