Google researcher presents ‘The Future of Asking (and Answering) Questions’

ST. GEORGE — Exploring how today’s information searchers can help envision the library of the future, Dr. Daniel Russell will present his thoughts Tuesday on the future of libraries, online question asking and information search and retrieval at the next installment in Dixie State University’s lecture series “Dixie Forum.”

Russell will present “The Future of Asking (and Answering) Questions: How Technology Changes the Way We Think” from noon to 12:50 p.m. Tuesday in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the Dixie State University campus. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

A library advocate and user, Russell is a senior research scientist for search quality and user happiness at Google. In his research, he focuses on understanding how searchers think of online content, how they search and what they consider success and failure in terms of search results.

In addition to working for Google, Russell blogs at SearchReSearch and teaches online search skills classes and live search classes at libraries around the world. His online course currently hosts 3,000 learners each week.

Dixie Forum is a weekly lecture series designed to introduce the St. George community and Dixie State University students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation.

Dixie Forum will be on recess Oct. 11 as the university observes Fall Break but will return Oct. 18. Jeff Yule will present “Cloning, rewilding, baseline decisions, and ecological restoration: Navigating North America’s ecological options” at noon in the Dunford Auditorium.
