CEDAR CITY – Three Peaks Recreation Area north of Cedar City has added a second disc golf course to its complex, the Ironside Disc Golf Course, and the public is invited to join in a free grand opening tournament Saturday at 9 a.m. Free discs will be provided to the first 100 attendees.

The Ironside course sits next to the Three Peaks Disc Golf Course, an 18-hole championship level course that opened last year. Both are considered world-class courses, the tournament’s news release said.

Ironside was designed by the Three Peaks Disc Golf Association in partnership with the county and Bureau of Land Management’s Cedar City Field Office.

“We have two professional disc golf courses next to each other that inspires (sic) and encourages (sic) people to get outdoors,” Cameron Findlay, with the disc golf association, said via the news release. “Our partnerships with the county and the BLM made this possible. This is about experiencing our public lands in another unique and amazing way.”

BLM and Iron County are partners in managing and maintaining the course and the public lands it sits on. It is a continuation of the partnership in managing the Three Peaks Recreation Area in Iron County.

“Our partnerships with Iron County, and local organizations like the disc golf association help open doors to projects that make our community stronger, more attractive and provide pride in our public lands,” Cedar City Field Manager Tyler Ashcroft said in the news release.

Three Peaks accommodates several recreational activities. In addition to the two disc golf courses, its facilities include a shooting range, trails for mountain biking, all-terrain vehicles and hiking, a radio control flying field, and an equestrian area.

“Iron County is a home for outdoor enthusiasts and is now a beacon to professional disc golfers, enthusiasts and those just learning the sport,” county Outdoor Recreation Director Maria Twitchell said in the release.

Cedar City Brian Head Tourism recommends visitors to the recreation area bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes. “You are navigating through sagebrush, juniper trees, and large rock formations,” its webpage states.
