CEDAR CITY — Even though Cedar City held their Pioneer Day activities one day after the officially recognized holiday, community members still came out en masse Monday to celebrate and pay tribute to the pioneers who traveled across the country and settled in Utah in 1847.

The theme of this year’s festivities was “Press Forward,” and events included a program at the Rock Church on Center Street, featuring keynote speaker Thomas M. Higbee and honoring Richard and Joyce Messer as “Outstanding Citizens” and Robert D. Allinson as a “Modern Day Pioneer.” The “Main Street Mile Run” took place at 9:30 a.m., followed by the parade, which led into food, games and other activities at the Main Street Park.
