Film Fanatics: Playful ‘Pets’ and pulpy ‘Tarzan’ swing into theaters

REVIEW – “Film Fanatics” co-hosts probe the taming of leading roles – dogs and the classic ape man –in this week’s show about “the Secret Life of Pets” and “The Legend of Tarzan,” both recently released.

In “The Secret Life of Pets,” rival dogs Max (voiced by Louis CK) and Duke (voiced by Eric Stonestreet) must work together after getting lost in the big city. It wont be easy, however, as they’ll come face to face with Kevin Hart’s fierce bunny rabbit, Snowball. Is “Pets” an audience’s best friend?

In “The Legend of Tarzan,” the famed title character (played by Alexander Skarsgard) has been integrated into the civilized world; but just after he gets out the jungle, they pull him back in. The adventure is set into motion after villainous Leon Rom (played by Christoph Waltz) kidnaps Jane (played by Margot Robbie) forcing the real king of the jungle back into action. In its swing for the fences, does “Tarzan” earn a “See it”?

Also on this jam packed episode of “Film Fanatics,” Adam Mast and guest host Sheldon Demke take a look at Steven Spielberg’s “The BFG” – you’ve seen the trailers, let’s talk about it.  Stick with it to the end for the added bonus look at local news.
