WASHINGTON CITY – A Washington City Fire Department truck parked in an empty lot broke free and rolled across Main Street Thursday, embedding itself in an embankment by Interstate 15.
“Some fire personnel had parked the vehicle in that vacant lot on the southwest corner of Buena Vista and Main Street,” Washington City Police spokesman Ed Kantor said, “in order to use another vehicle to answer another call for service.”
No one was in the vehicle at the time and it is not known what caused the vehicle to roll, Kantor said, as the incident is still under investigation.
The incident caused very minor damage to the rear bumper of the fire truck and no one else was involved or hurt when it crossed Main Street, Kantor said.
“It was going at a slow rate of speed, it was just rolling.”
“Per our protocol, we have an outside agency investigate those (incidents) where a city vehicle’s involved. They’ll determine if something on the braking system failed, or what,” Kantor said. The Sheriff’s Office will complete an investigation, but Kantor doesn’t know when that will be finished.
“It turned out the best it could,” Kantor said. “We’re just glad there were no other individuals involved.”
Units from Washington City Police Department, Washington City Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Fire and Rescue responded to the incident.
