ST. GEORGE — A drowsy driver fell asleep at the wheel on state Route 18 Wednesday morning and crashed his vehicle into rocky terrain.

Raul Engrandes Brione, of Beryl, Utah, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry in the southbound lanes of state Route 18 at approximately 5:14 a.m. when he fell asleep and left the roadway, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said. His vehicle struck multiple boulders and was knocked onto its driver’s side, where it came to rest.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found Engrandes Brione standing outside his vehicle, Trombley said. He refused medical transport.

Engrandes Brione was cited for never obtaining a license and for improper lane travel.

No other factors besides drowsiness were thought to have been a factor in the accident, Trombley said. Engrandes Brione was wearing a seat belt when the incident occurred.

St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance all responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Coming from Beryl? Meth heads usually don’t fall asleep.

Unless he was up all night tending the POT farm. 🙂

“Engrandes Brione, who is in the country illegally, was cited for never obtaining a license and for improper lane travel, but stands zero chance of being deported under the current administration.” Fixed.
