Our dear husband, father and brother, Garr William Welker, 89, passed away June 16.

Garr was born Sept. 26, 1926, to Charles Wesley and Adella Harrison Welker, fourth of seven children. He spent his childhood in Logan, Utah, roaming the mountains and foothills and swimming in a swimming hole that he and his friends built.

Garr served in the United States Army, where he served as a medic at Fort Sam Houston and served six months in Japan. Later, he worked for the United States Bureau of Reclamation as a stationary equipment operator at Hoover Dam and also as a filter plant operator in Boulder City, Nevada. He retired after 23 years.

Garr served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his wife as a member locator and also as a temple worker in the St George Temple. He passed away peacefully at Summerfield Manor in Orem, Utah, surrounded by a loving and devoted family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Alice H. Welker; his brother, Ivan Welker; sister, Julia (Jay) Pitkin; his children: Garr Welker Jr., Robert (Susan) Welker,  Suzy (Ron) Brown, Christy (Lyle) Hougan, Patti (Ed) Smalley and Betty (Jess) Ware; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, at 11 a.m. in the Morningside LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 879 S. River Road, St George, Utah.
  • A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the Chapel.
  • Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
