61-year-old man goes missing after crash

ST. GEORGE — The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help Wednesday in locating a 61-year-old man who went missing Saturday from a Canyonlands National Park campground in Moab.

Michael Sheftell was last seen approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the Anticline Overlook Road in Canyonlands, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a media statement.

“Michael had been in a motor vehicle accident and was picked up by another motorist,” according to the statement. “Michael refused any medical help and asked them for a ride back to his camp.”

Officials said Sheftell was dropped off a short distance from where he told the motorist his camp was located.

Sheftell was last seen walking toward his camp.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Michael Sheftell is asked to call the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office at 435-587-2237.
