HURRICANE — A pickup truck hit a 60-year-old woman riding a Harley Davidson trike Saturday after she allegedly failed to stop at a red light before crossing into a busy intersection in Hurricane.

Emergency crews transported the woman to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for injuries to her leg and arm. Police report she was transported in stable condition.

Officers responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. and found a Chevy pickup truck in the middle of the intersection of State Street and Main Street. The motorcycle was smashed into the truck’s front grill, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.

Officers determined the woman riding the three-wheel motorcycle was heading west on State Street when she ran the red light, Buell said, putting herself directly in the path of the truck traveling south on Main Street.

The 19-year old man driving the Chevy had the right of way, police said.

The impact of the crash ripped the rear cargo container of the Harley off the bike and hurled it to the other side of the street more than 35 feet away.

The collision completely blocked both westbound lanes of State Street, Buell said, and the inside lane of Main Street as well.  Officers redirected traffic and cleared one westbound lane for travel on State Street. Traffic was still affected, however, for about 45 minutes.

The woman riding the Harley was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Buell said, and the driver of the Chevy was wearing his seatbelt.

The Harley was totaled and had to be towed from the intersection following the accident while the truck was driven from the scene.

Police later cited the woman for failing to obey a traffic signal, Buell said.

Hurricane City Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Years ago there was a news blip about Arnold Schwarzenegger being in a motor cycle accident on a city street .
He was injured & required medical treatment .
    We’re about the same age but both O L D . . .
There was that epiphany moment when I realized that ‘ If the terminator could be injured , Anyone could ‘ .

It was then I became smart enough to NEVER be on a motor bike again .
Old people do Not heal as fast or as well as younger people after an injury .
