Shortly before 10 a.m., a white Volvo passenger car driven by an adult woman attempted to pull out of the driveway at the Gun Barrel Steak & Game House and make a left turn onto N. Bluff Street. A gray Mercury Mariner SUV, also driven by an adult woman with an adult female passenger, was southbound on Bluff Street and collided with the driver’s side of the Volvo, St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said.

“The passenger car pulled out in front of them (the SUV), and they collided in the intersection,” Bangerter said, adding that a driver traveling behind the SUV witnessed the accident as it unfolded.

Both vehicles came to rest in the center turn lane with visible damage to the front end of each.

There were minor injuries reported, Bangerter said, but no one was transported for treatment.

The driver of the Volvo was cited for failure to yield after a stop sign.

Everyone had seat belts on, Bangerter said, and airbags were deployed in the Mercury. While Bangerter originally stated airbags didn’t deploy in the Volvo, he later confirmed that the side-impact airbags did deploy.

Drivers need to be cautious when making left-hand turns, he said, and be certain to yield to oncoming traffic.
