ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of central Utah, northern Utah, Southern Utah and southwest Wyoming, with mountain snow and valley rain expected across much of the forecast area.

Cache Valley (Utah portion), northern Wasatch Front, Salt Lake and Tooele valleys, southern Wasatch Front, Great Salt Lake Desert and mountains, Wasatch Mountain valleys, Wasatch Mountains near Interstate-80 North, Wasatch Mountains south of I-80, western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau-Book Cliffs, Western Uinta Basin-Castle Country, San Rafael Swell, Sanpete-Sevier valleys, west-central Utah, southwest Utah, Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, south-central Utah, Glen Canyon Recreation Area-Lake Powell, central mountains, southern mountains and southwest Wyoming.
Day one — Saturday
Isolated to scattered valley rain and high mountain snow showers will continue across much of the outlook area Saturday, with minor accumulations of snow above 7,500 feet. More widespread precipitation is expected across far Southern Utah.
Strong easterly downslope winds are possible Saturday night through Sunday along the Wasatch Front and Cache Valley with impacts to include the Interstate 15 corridor from Salt Lake City north through Brigham City.
Utah Department of Transportation has issued a travel alert forecasting crosswind gusts of 45 mph and higher along most routes along the northern Wasatch Front and Cache valley, with gusts of 70 mph or greater for portions of US Highway 89 and I-15 in Farmington, Centerville and Kaysville. Peak gusts are expected between 11 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. More detailed information on the northern travel alert is available on UDOT’s Web page.
Motorists, especially those in high profile or lightweight vehicles, are advised to use caution and TravelWise. The following routes will be impacted during the forecast period:
Days two through seven — Sunday through Friday
Easterly downslope winds are expected to continue along the Wasatch Front into Sunday night before gradually tapering off.
