Tourist falls to his death in Garfield County

GARFIELD COUNTY – A Colorado man was killed after falling 200 feet from a cliff, according to a statement from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew Mark Davis, 58, of Ridgeway, Colorado, was camping with a female companion in the Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument when the incident occurred.

Davis, who was described as an avid hiker and mountain climber, walked away from the campsite around 4 p.m., Wednesday, and didn’t return. He was reported missing Thursday morning.

Garfield County Search and Rescue was called in to search for Davis. His body was found a short distance from the campsite, having fallen around 200 feet to his death.
