ST. GEORGE — Car Guys Care, a group that uses their interest in collecting and showing classic cars as a vehicle for community projects and charities, will put on the “Cruzin’ Main Classic Car Show” Saturday to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The public car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Megaplex Theatres, 905 S. Main Street in St. George. Additional entries are welcome for a $35 fee to be paid at the show Saturday.

Car Guys Care is joined by Desert Sports Management and Canyon Media in this effort to rally sponsors and donors to assist the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation that works to understand and fight Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as juvenile diabetes.

“It’s just a way for us guys to give back to the community,” said Shane Dastrup, president of the Southern Utah Mustang Owners Association & Classic Ford Club.

According to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, each year more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults — approximately 80 people per day — are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the United States.

Since its founding more than 40 years ago by parents of children affected by Type 1 diabetes, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has been committed to finding a cure for all those living with the disease

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease; a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food.
