ST. GEORGE — The music and memory of Johann Sebastian Bach will be honored in two free evening performances at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints St. George Tabernacle and Trinity Lutheran Church respectively. The annual St. George Bach Festival is sponsored and presented by organist Geoffrey Myers and the Southwest Symphony Strings.
The program features selected organ and orchestral music of Bach, with Soprano Jennie Smith (Cantata 51) and youth performers. The music includes representative organ compositions and the Brandenburg Concerto No.3.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1585-1750) is generally acknowledged to be the Father of Western Music and has remarkably influenced the music of the world’s great classical and modern composers who have succeeded him.
The two evening performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 in the St. George LDS Tabernacle, and at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 17 in the Trinity Lutheran Church at 2260 East Red Cliffs Drive in St. George.
