ST. GEORGE – Three Region 9 girls basketball stars announced their intentions on Friday as to where they plan on taking their game to the next level. Pine View’s Tayvia Ah Quin announced Friday morning at PVHS that she would play for the Lady Badgers of Snow College. Two hours later, Snow Canyon’s Mada Mooring and Shaylee Reed announced similar intentions to play at Snow College.

Reed was the 3A Utah State Tournament MVP and the Region 9 Player of the Year. She averaged 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds for the state champions.

Mooring, recently named the 3A MVP by the Deseret News, led the Lady Warriors in scoring (15.9), assists (4.2) and steals (2.27) per game. She and Reed made a potent inside-out combination that was difficult to stop for opposing defenses.

Ah Quin led the Lady Panthers to the 3A semifinals, where they lost to eventual champion Snow Canyon. Ah Quin led Pine View in scoring (12.3), rebounding (7.6) and assists (2.1) per game. Ah Quin led a team beset by injuries all year to 14-11 record.

“I am very excited for Tayvia Ah Quin,” said Pine View head coach Chris Brinagh. “She will be able to showcase her talents at the next level. And having an opportunity to play with Mada Mooring and Shaylee Reed is icing on the cake. Three great athletes from Region 9. They will help Snow College immediately. You can call them the Big 3. Snow is going to get better real fast.”

The three will join former Region 9 player Aubri Challis from Dixie High School. Challis started 13 games for the Lady Badgers and was third on the team in scoring. Snow College went 20-12 last year. The Badgers graduated four sophomores from this year’s team and return eight freshman.
