The Washington County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence of John Brent Zimmerman on the 1400 West block of Primrose Drive, according to a probable cause statement filed by the task force in support of the arrest.

During the search, authorities allegedly located methamphetamine and eight firearms in a safe to which Zimmerman provided the key. According to the statement, Zimmerman admitted that the substance was methamphetamine and that it was his.

Because of his criminal history, the report stated, Zimmerman is prohibited from having any type of weapon in his possession.

In addition to the firearms and methamphetamine, authorities allegedly located a scale, baggies, weighing utensils and marijuana, according to the probable cause statement.

Zimmerman was located in the residence at the time the search warrant was executed and was arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

He was charged with one count of second-degree felony drug possession with the intent to distribute, eight third-degree felony counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person and two class B misdemeanor counts of drug and drug paraphernalia possession.

Zimmerman was released from custody Friday on $51,360 bail pending trial.

He is scheduled to appear before Judge G. Michael Westfall in 5th District Court for an initial court appearance on April 14.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

They should make it illegal for criminals to have guns.
I bet a strongly worded law against criminals having guns would solve that part of the problem.
