MESQUITEThe Mesquite Police Department cautions residents to be aware of callers who claim to represent Overton Power asking for payments on past due bills.

As part of the scam, the caller will ask the resident to make an immediate payment by credit card over the phone in order to prevent Overton Power crews from coming out to the home and disconnecting service.

The Police Department is aware of the scam, so there is no need to file a report unless you have suffered a financial loss as a result of the scam. Unfortunately, in cases like this, it is highly unlikely that the victims will recover the lost funds.

It is suggested that residents tell the scammer that they will call Overton Power directly and make a payment.  Keep your credit card, checking account and Social Security numbers to yourself. Don’t give them out to callers you do not know, even if they ask you to “confirm” this information.
