Morning blizzard conditions factor in multiple accidents on I-15, temporary closures

IRON COUNTY – White-out conditions and several accidents have caused partial closures on Interstate 15 in the Beaver area Saturday morning and motorists have been advised to expect significant delays.

A series of crashes occurred on I-15 beginning just before 7 a.m. and continuing over the next hour. Utah Department of Transportation identified several crashes between mileposts 93 and 118, with periods of lane closures.

At 9:20 a.m., St. George News on location at the junction of I-15 and state Route 20 reports traffic is free flowing in both directions.  Currently, roads remain wet but it is not snowing.

En route to that location, two vehicles were already on flatbeds for removal from the highway and another such was in process of being loaded.

Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Utah Highway Patrol, Parowan Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance were among the agencies addressing the morning incidents.

Particulars on the accidents involved will be reported separately.

The National Weather Service has issued alerts forecasting hazardous weather Saturday through Friday.
