ST. GEORGE — Maintenance closed 100 South Street in St. George between 1000 East and River Road Friday night for drainage repair, and the road will remain closed throughout most of Saturday.
“There are these springs under there,” City of St. George Streets Division Superintendent Dave Terry said. “It’s been a problem all winter.”
Terry said they are replacing some lines under the street to get the spring water to come to the surface to help prevent potholes from forming.
“We’ll probably be closed until 4 or 5 this afternoon,” Terry said Saturday, “from here to River Road. The only reason we went all the way to River Road is people who turn down here from River Road would just have to turn around and go back.”
Eastbound traffic is being detoured around the area north on 1000 East to St. George Boulevard. Westbound traffic is not being allowed on 100 South from River Road and must either take St. George Boulevard or 700 South Street.
