ST. GEORGE — A collision on Friday morning between the driver of a PT Cruiser and an elderly male on a tricycle delivery bike resulted in an ambulance trip for the cyclist and a citation for the driver.
St. George Police responded to the intersection of 100 South and River Road at approximately 8:35 a.m. and found the injured man on scene. Police discovered the driver had left without stopping, St. George Police Sgt. Jordan Minnick said.
Both the bicyclist and the driver were heading west on 100 South when the accident occurred.
The parked and unoccupied PT Cruiser was soon located at the Testing Center at Dixie State University by St. George police officers.
Shortly afterward, the driver of the vehicle, an adult woman, returned to the accident in a a different vehicle with another woman. The driver was told to retrieve the PT Cruiser and return to the scene, where she was questioned by officers.
“It wasn’t until later that she realized there had been an accident,” Minnick said.
The bicyclist sustained a small laceration to his head and complained of soreness. He was transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
“Minimal injuries on the person on the bicycle, just more pain, but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary (measure),” said Minnick.
The driver of the PT Cruiser was cited for failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
The tricycle sustained significant damage to its left rear wheel and was removed on a flatbed trailer.
St. George Police, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the incident.
