Kanab Balloons and Tunes Roundup lights up skies, faces over 3-day festival weekend

KANAB — The Kanab Balloons and Tunes Roundup wrapped up three days of hot air balloon launches, live music and more Sunday. The three-day festival featured a smorgasbord of sights, smells and sounds to delight community members and tourists alike.

The festival drew in big crowds this year not only from out of town but out of state, said Camille Johnson of the Kane County Office of Tourism.

“It has been so amazing, so much more than we expected,” Johnson said, “the weather has been awesome and just all things are ideal this year.”

Johnson said they worked hard to get the word out about the festival and she was pleased with the turnout.

The festival included dozens of balloonists launching all three days, a two-day battle of the bands competition, street fair, balloon glow and a lantern launch.

Trophies were given to the top three bands in the competition. The prizes were given as follows:

  • First Place | Buckit
  • Second Place | Float the Boat
  • Third Place | Aura Surreal

History was made during the festival for pilot Andrew Holly of the United Kingdom who broke the record for the most states flown in 30 days by a United Kingdom resident, Johnson said.
