ST. GEORGE – A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 700 South and River Road Thursday afternoon left one vehicle totaled and the other impounded for no insurance.
St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said the driver of a pickup truck going eastbound on 700 South entered the left turn lane before driving into the intersection just as the light turned red, hitting another vehicle entering the intersection going westbound under a green light.
The light had turned green for traffic coming down off of Foremaster Drive, which included the Accord that collided with the pickup truck. The front of the Honda Accord was heavily damaged, though it was able to be pulled over to the side of the road and out of traffic.
The driver of the green pickup truck, which received little visible damage by comparison, was able to move into the Maverik gas station parking lot.
Several witnesses at the scene helped piece the accident together for police, Bangerter said.
“We had several witnesses that stopped and filled out statements,” he said, “which really helps us in a situation like this.”
No one was injured in the crash.
While investigating the incident police determined the driver of the pickup truck did not have insurance, which lead to the vehicle being impounded.
The Honda Accord had to be towed from the scene. St. George Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded.
