Meet GOP candidates for County Commission; open forum

ST. GEORGE – The public is invited to attend the Dixie Republican Forum Tuesday to hear from Republican candidates for Washington County Commission Seat A.

The event will be held at the Dixie State University Alumni House, 684 E. 500 South in St. George. Meet and greet begins at 11:30 a.m., forum begins at noon.

Commissioner Alan Gardner, who currently holds the seat, is not seeking re-election this year, leaving one seat on the commission open. Gardner will be stepping down after serving on the commission for 20 years. Victor Iverson and Zach Renstrom remain on the commission; both of whom were elected to office during the 2014 election cycle.

The candidates are Greg Aldred, businessman and former Dixie Republican Forum chairman; Gil Almquist, businessman and former St. George City councilman; Dean Cox, Washington County administrator and former GOP county chairman; and Jimi Kestin, State Bank of Southern Utah assistant vice president and former GOP legislative district chair.

The Dixie Republican Forum is an independent conservative group that hosts monthly meetings for educational purposes.
