ST. GEORGE – A man who robbed a Subway restaurant last year at knife-point pleaded guilty in 5th District Court Wednesday for his involvement in the incident.
Richard Scott Labrum, 27, of St. George, robbed the Subway at 524 N. Bluff Street shortly after 9 a.m. on Nov. 8, 2015, while brandishing a knife, then fled the scene. He was apprehended three hours later by St. George Police officers.
Labrum was subsequently charged with a felony for aggravated robbery and a misdemeanor for theft. As a part of a guilty plea agreement, the prosecution dropped the theft charge.
Judge Michael G. Westfell scheduled a sentencing hearing for March 16 and ordered a pre-sentencing investigation be conducted.
According to court records, Subway employees told police that Labrum called the restaurant prior to the robbery and asked various questions before hanging up. He then entered the Subway while attempting “to disguise himself with duct tape place(d) over his mouth, and some duct tape on his clothing to cover up emblems.”
With knife in hand, Labrum demanded money and then left with $355. Police were able to track Labrum down through the phone number he used to call Subway, according to court records.
No one was harmed during the robbery.
A month before the robbery, Labrum pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and drug paraphernalia in a case related to a June 2015 arrest. Sentencing in this case will also take place on March 16.
With the felony aggravated robbery charge he faces, Labrum could receive up to 15 years in prison.
