Cedar City Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the Sizzler parking lot at the corner of 200 North and Main Street after a witness called and told Public Safety Dispatch a pedestrian was hit in the south crosswalk.

The woman who was struck was walking east on 200 North crossing Main street, Officer Zach Banz said, when a woman driving a white Mitsubishi Galant who was also heading east on 200 North made a right-hand turn striking the pedestrian.

A woman who was driving past when it happened shared what she witnessed with Cedar City News.

The girl who was hit flew up in the air, landing on the hood of the car and then falling to the ground, witness Angie Cummens said.

“We were in the straight lane (heading south on Main Street),” Cummens said. “And I saw the girl on the corner, and she went to go and the lady just went and hit her.”

Cummens went around the block to make her way back and check on the girl, she said. When she got back to the scene there were others who had stopped as well.

“She was sitting there and she looked like she was in pain,” Cummens said. “She was holding her back.”

The girl was only 19-years-old, Cummens said, so they called her mother to see what to do next and her mother instructed her to go to the hospital for evaluation.

Gold Cross Ambulance transported the girl to the hospital from the scene.

“She was heading to the library,” Cummens said. “She was like ‘I guess I can go to the library tomorrow and hopefully I won’t get hit.’”

The driver of the Mitsubishi Galant was cited on the scene for failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, Banz said.

The extent of the girl’s injuries are unknown.
