St. George holds balloon send-off for fallen officer, public encouraged to join in

ST. GEORGE — Southern Utah is asked to join together in sending balloons to heaven for Utah Police Officer Doug Barney, who was tragically killed in the line of duty Jan. 17. The send-off will be at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at the St. George Police Department, located at 265 N. 200 East in St. George.

Barney is an 18-year police officer who left behind his wife, Erika, and his three children, Matilda, Meredith and Jacob, as well as many other friends and family members devastated by his loss.

The community is asked to take a few minutes out of their busy schedules and show this family that Southern Utah is standing with them during this hard time and that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A video of the balloons for Officer Barney will be sent to his family to help lift them up at this difficult time. Organizers will be bringing as many balloons as they can get donated. Please feel free to bring your own as well, just make sure they are true blue. They would love to see as much blue as possible, even if it’s just your clothing.
