Southern Utah veterans honored for service to Ivins Veterans Home

IVINS — Honors were bestowed on several Utah veterans with Community Veterans Awards Thursday afternoon at the Southern Utah Veterans Home in Ivins.

The veterans were chosen because of their service to the Veterans Home over the years. All veterans honored will receive a plaque to be permanently placed on the wall of the facility and a certificate that they can keep.

Honorees present at the ceremony were:

  • Mel Brewer, WWII U.S. Army, retired
  • Ski Ingram, Vietnam veteran, Area 4 commander adjutant, American Legion Post 90
  • Rick McMullin, Army National Guard, retired, Veterans Outreach Service Officer

One honoree was not able to attend:

  • Ken Parker, Veterans Service Officer

One honoree passed away in April 2014:

  • Frederico Maria Ritchie, Vietnam veteran, Major, U.S. Army, retired.

A native of Pacific Palisades, Calif., Ric was bitten by the news bug as a staff writer and associate editor of the Palisades High School Tideline. After school he entered the media as a radio personality, both playing music and reporting news. Ric moved to St. George in the 1980s and was the morning personality on all three major AM stations in town.
