The St. George Fire Department was dispatched to the Ultra Car Wash at 766 S. River Road just after 10 a.m.

“A car wash employee showed up to work today,” St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett said. “They found a metal device attached to the door of the car wash. Upon further investigation it was determined the device was an explosive device and the bomb squad came out and recovered it.”

St. George Police and the Washington County Bomb Squad also were called at that point. A bomb squad technician removed the device just after noon and placed it in a blast-proof box for removal.

It is unknown if the device was actually an explosive or not.

“We don’t know the contents of it right now,” Triplett said, “Everything, from what we can determine, appears to be an explosive device.”

The bomb squad removed the device for further examination and disposal.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
