Antique store burglarized over Christmas

ST. GEORGE — Between Christmas Eve and Saturday morning, burglars entered the ReDiscovered Treasures store on 700 East in St. George. The resulting loss could drive the small business owners out of business.

“My family, my husband, my brother, my kids spent countless hours helping me do this,” owner Diane Bolding of St. George said. “It’s hard just to pay the bills and stay open, and then to have someone come in and just take that (merchandise and cash), it’s one of the most difficult things. It’s not the cash, it’s the time and effort spent and the attachment to each piece that comes in.”

Bolding said she returned to her store Saturday after the Christmas holiday to find someone had pried open the front door.

“As I was coming up, I was thinking, ‘did I not lock the door on Christmas eve?’ I looked in the door and all the drawers were open, been thrown out, you know, the store was thrashed. You’re coming from a high of Christmas and spending it with your family and you have to walk into something like that, it’s not a good thing. It’s not a good feeling.”

An antique desk, chairs, a sectional couch, a four foot antique pillow, small decorative items, chalk painting supplies and an undisclosed amount of cash was missing from the store.

“Hopefully my insurance will help with that,” Bolding said. “That’s a blow I can’t afford.”

Bolding asks if anyone has information regarding the theft to contact St. George Police officer Chad Lee at telephone 435-627-4300.
