HURRICANE — Two trucks smashed into each other at the intersection of State Street and Sand Hollow Road in Hurricane Monday night, causing extensive damage to the vehicles and traffic delays.

Just before 6 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of State Street and Sand Hollow Road where two pickup trucks collided. Officers found two badly damaged pickup trucks crumpled in the lane, Hurricane City Police City Officer Jeff Adams said.

The 21-year-old male driver of a red 2001 Dodge pickup truck was heading east on State Street when he approached the intersection with Sand Hollow Road just as the light turned yellow.

At the same time, the 53-year-old female driver of a white 2005 GMC pickup truck was travelling west on State Street as she entered the left-hand turn lane of the intersection. The woman continued through the intersection and turned directly in front of the red truck, Adams said.

The driver of the red truck hit the brakes, Adams said, but both trucks smashed into each other.

The collision spun the trucks around until both came to rest in the eastbound lane of State Street facing the wrong direction.

The crash rendered both vehicles inoperable and in the roadway, blocking the right-hand traffic lane for more than 45 minutes until the roadway was cleared, Adams said.

Paramedics responded to the scene, however both drivers reported they were uninjured and declined transport to the hospital by ambulance.

As this report is published, the incident is under investigation, Adams said, and no citations had been issued.

Hurricane City Police and Hurricane Valley Fire and Ambulance responded to the incident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
