At about 8:35 p.m., the 43-year-old driver of a white 2008 Toyota Prius and his two passengers were traveling in the right travel lane on southbound I-15, just south of milepost 90 in Clark County, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

At that time, the driver of the Toyota Prius noticed a person, who was later identified as Charles McCormick, of Helena, Montana, standing in the right lane of travel, Stuenkel said. The driver of the Toyota Prius attempted to steer to the left to avoid hitting the man, but struck him with the right front of the car.

As a result, McCormick succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a coroner.

The three occupants of the Toyota Prius did not receive any reported injuries, Stuenkel said. The driver stayed at the scene of the incident and was not issued a citation.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
