ST. GEORGE – Police are searching for a suspect allegedly involved in an armed robbery early Tuesday morning at a St. George restaurant.
At around 1 a.m., as an employee was preparing to close business for the night at Pizza Hut, 932 S. Bluff Street in St. George, they were approached by a male suspect wearing a black mask and carrying a handgun, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.
The suspect demanded money from the employee before fleeing the business on foot with an unspecified amount of money, Despain said.
The employee called police, Despain said, and officers began circulating and canvassing the area, looking for the male suspect who was identified as Caucasian with an average build, wearing a red hoodie and shorts.
Though officers were unable to locate the suspect, they were able to follow a trail of change leading north and then east from the rear of Pizza Hut. The change trail eventually ended with a penny located on the stairs of America’s Best Value Inn located at 915 S. Bluff Street, Despain said.
Officers were not able to locate the suspect at the motel and, as this report is published, police are actively searching for the suspect.
Despain said surveillance footage of the incident was collected and is expected to be released to the media and the public at a later time.
Meanwhile, police are asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.
This is a developing story and on going investigation. Information will be updated as it is made available.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
