MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. – Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies made three arrests for drug-related crimes this week, including the arrest of a St. George man as well two other individuals discovered to be transporting nearly 55 pounds of marijuana.
Early Wednesday morning, deputies arrested Bee Lee, 61, of Denver, Colorado, and Bee Moua, 37, of Fresno, California, on three felony charges of transportation of marijuana for sale, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Patricia Carter.
At approximately 2:05 a.m., deputies initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle on Interstate 40 at milepost 52 in Kingman, Arizona. When deputies spoke with Lee, the driver of the vehicle, and Moua, the passenger, they smelled an odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle, Carter said.
While Lee told authorities the two were traveling from California to Colorado, Moua offered a little more intriguing information about their travels.
“Moua advised there was 9 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle when the deputy inquired,” Carter said in a media statement. “A search of the vehicle revealed 44 bundles of marijuana weighting 53.5 pounds.”
Lee and Moua were taken into custody without incident. They were transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Tuesday afternoon, deputies arrested Jason M. Axley, 48, of St. George, on felony charges of possession of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia, along with a misdemeanor for knowingly displaying fictitious license plates.
At 1:06 p.m., deputies observed a Saturn passenger vehicle drive off Fleet Street in Littlefield, Arizona, and into the Arizona Strip desert, Carter said. The driver of the vehicle then traveled down a dirt road which is often used as an illegal dumping place, she said.
A short time later, deputies located the vehicle in the Virgin River area north of Interstate 15 at milepost 11. Deputies observed Axley standing outside of the vehicle and went to speak with him.
A records check on the license plates on the Saturn returned showing the plates were registered to a Honda Accord, Carter said.
“Axley advised that he has bad plates on the car because he recently purchased the car and he needed to get new plates,” Carter said in the statement.
A search of the Saturn revealed a syringe, a spoon with residue and a plastic bag containing a white crystal substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine, Carter said.
Axley was arrested and booked into the Mesquite Jail. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
