VIRGIN – While one Town Council seat has likely been won in Virgin, the other is still too close to call, prompting a recount in the two-seat race.
“Crazy night,” Virgin Town Clerk Monica Bowcutt said in a text message to St. George News. “We have a winner, but, the (other) two candidates are still only one vote apart.”
The Virgin Town Council did not certify canvassed election results Tuesday due to a single-vote difference between candidates Daniel Snyder and Danyale Blackmore, the incumbent, who received 129 and 128 votes respectively, while also reversing the potential winner of the sought-after council seat.
Late week’s unofficial election results put Blackmore ahead of Snyder by one vote at 127 to 126.
Meanwhile, Matthew Spendlove won the other council seat with 139 votes, adding one vote to the overall tally.
“… So (the)Town Council did not certify (the results), but instead they voted to have a recount,” Bowcutt said.
A recount will be submitted for certification by the Town Council at another canvas meeting set for Monday at 6 p.m.
Last week’s unofficial returns placed voter turned for Virgin at 76 percent.
