The northbound pickup was stopped at the traffic light waiting to turn left onto Sunset Boulevard. A Dodge Intrepid came up behind him and rear-ended the truck, causing major damage to the front of the Intrepid.

The driver of the Intrepid was suffering from a pre-existing medical condition, which contributed to the crash, St. George Police Officer Lona Trombley said, though she didn’t know specifically what the condition was. He was transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

The pickup sustained only minor damage to the back bumper and was driven away from the scene. The Intrepid was towed away.

The driver of the Intrepid was cited for following too closely.

The accident closed the northbound left turn lane and the southbound left lane for about 30 minutes while the vehicles were removed and the investigation completed.

Units from the St. George Police Department, the St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the accident.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
