Enoch elects new council members, mayor

ENOCH – Unofficial election returns put three newcomers in the lead for seats on the Enoch City Council. The race for the city’s new mayor also looks to have been potentially decided by the canvassed numbers.

Council candidate Shawn Stoor leads the unofficial returns with 655 votes (22.70 percent), followed by David Harris with 643 votes (22.29 percent) and David Owens with 523 votes (18.13 percent).

In the mayoral race, Geoffrey Chestnut took 652 votes (62.45 percent) to Worth Grimshaw’s 392 votes (37.55 percent).

These numbers are subject to change as the official tally, including provisional and mail-in ballots, is made and presented to the Enoch City Council for approval in an upcoming meeting.

When Harris found out he was potentially elected to Enoch City Council, he was pleased with the results, he said, and at the same time humbled that the people chose him.

Because the town has acknowledged that it will continue to grow, Harris said, it now needs to focus on maintaining the nice, friendly town it is.

“I feel like now the real work begins; I’ve got to rest up and get to work,” Harris said.

Stoor was ready to get right to work as soon as he found out the results.

“One thing that needs to be addressed immediately is issues with drainage,” Stoor said. “We need to see a move forward with action plans on improving drainage.”

Stoor said he plans to start trying to efret incremental results in the city, including improvement with the infrastructure.

In addition to being happy about his own results, Owens said he was excited about the other two new council members.

“I’m supportive of the other winners,” Owens said. “I’m looking forward to working with them.”

Owens said he’s ready to face the challenges that will be presented and find an amicable resolution.

Chestnut was unavailable for comment at the time of this publication.

According to the unofficial election results, overall voter turnout for Enoch was 34.4 percent.
