A 66-year old man, driving a 1998 Ford Explorer, failed to make a complete stop at the intersection and struck the 36-year old woman traveling south on 100 North, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.

The Explorer slowed down at the stop sign, but failed to stop completely, and hit into the Chevrolet Cavalier the woman was driving through the intersection with the right-of-way, Buell said.

The impact pushed the car through a fence before coming to rest in a resident’s yard on the corner.

The woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained multiple injuries and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George in serious, but stable condition, Buell said. The man sustained minor injuries during the collision but declined to be transported to the hospital.

While the man was issued a citation for failure to stop, Buell said, the woman was issued a written warning for not wearing a seat belt. (See ed. note)

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage as a result of the crash and had to be towed from the scene.

The intersection of 200 West and 100 North was blocked and officers diverted traffic for 30 minutes for emergency personnel to tend to the scene.

Hurricane Police and Hurricane Valley Fire Department responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

She had the right of way, but got a warning for failure to yield. Not sure I understand that.

im thinking hurricane polices’ meager attempt at stopping all the deaths in the last six months. its always a big truck hitting a small car dead on in the door either killing or seriously injuring someone during either a turn or straight on.. just maybe if they can get people to take extra caution before heading into any intersection no matter how simple it looks. But still, I think the “failure to yield” will be dismissed. But hey, we’re talking about it.
