Prep football: Match-ups set for first round of 3AA playoffs (updated w/times)

The Hurricane Tigers will host Park City in the first round of the 3AA playoffs.

The coin has been tossed and Bear River fans are loving the result.

While the 3AA South came away with no reason for coin toss tiebreakers, the 3AA North ended up with three teams tied for fourth place and in the 3AA scheme of things, that’s a big deal.

Park City, Bear River and Judge Memorial all ended up 2-4 in region play, so administrators for the three schools met Saturday to toss a coin and break the tie. The winner of the tiebreaker, Bear River, has been awarded the No. 4 seed from the region, meaning the Bears get a home game next week in the first round of the 3AA playoffs.

The Bears will host 3AA South No. 5 Pine View.

Judge Memorial came out of the coin toss as the No. 5 seed from the North and will travel to Cedar City to take on the Redmen.

Park City, which actually has the best overall record of the three tied teams at 5-5, is the biggest loser of the coin toss as the Miners end up as the No. 6 seed. Park City will travel to Hurricane to take on the Tigers.

The other first round game in the 3AA has Snow Canyon, the South’s No. 6 team, traveling to Stansbury to battle the Stallions, who are 7-3 and clinched the No. 3 seed with a win over Bear River Friday night.

Most of the teams are still working out the day/time details for next week’s games. We will update this story when those times are set.

Of note, the quarterfinal match-ups are already drawn up. In the upper bracket, Logan (North No. 1) will host the winner of Cedar-Judge, while Desert Hills (S2) will entertain the winner of Stansbury-Snow Canyon. In the lower bracket, Dixie (S1) will host the winner of Bear River-Pine View and Tooele (N2) will be home for the winner of Hurricane-Park City.
