HURRICANE – A driver was cited for striking an 11-year-old boy with her car near Three Falls Elementary School in Hurricane Thursday afternoon.
Just after 3 p.m., the boy was walking his bicycle at the intersection of 650 South and 700 West.
A 31-year-old woman in a 2008 Toyota Prius was stopped at the intersection, and as she turned right onto 700 West, she struck the boy as he was crossing the street with his bicycle, knocking him to the ground, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said.
The driver told officers at the scene that she never saw the boy, Buell said.
Based on information obtained, the bicycle took most of the impact, and the boy stated he was uninjured.
No injuries were reported, and neither party was transported to the hospital.
The woman was cited for failing to yield for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
“Remember to keep an eye out for kids who are walking and riding bikes out there,” Buell said.
Hurricane City Police and the Hurricane Valley Fire Department responded to the scene.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
